Repairing Structural Damage

Structural damage typically occurs in areas of increased stress on the pool shell, including skimmers, corners and depth transitions. In any case, you will need to first determine the damage type - surface or structural. Surface cracks can be caused by shrinking during the curing process when the pool was built, these cracks are shallow and not necessarily a leak issue. Structural damage to the pool shell is more serious, and will likely end in leaking if not treated.

Repairing structural damage to a pool can be difficult, and to adequately do so, you need to identify the cause. Generally, it comes down to a select few reasons - substandard construction; resulting in weakness, difficult soil conditions; resulting in extreme pressure on the pool shell, or the pool has been poorly engineered and designed. In the event of structural damage, you should consult a local technician or pool builder.

The typical repair process involves:

  1. Determine - structural or surface cracking/damage?
  2. Also determining the severity of the damage.
  3. Identify the cause.
  4. Use concrete staples on the damaged areas to restore structural integrity.
  5. Fill gaps with concrete as required.
  6. Once set, the pool is ready to be resurfaced.

If your pool is damaged and you need assistance, our Dealer Locator – found on the “Find a Dealer” page – will help you to reach a local professional.
